Surrealism

Emerged as a new artistic style between World War I & II. Surrealism entails the principles, ideals,or practice of producing fantastic or incongruous imagery in art or literature by means of unnatural juxtapositions and combinations. Surrealists intended to express a radical change in how man, the creator of society, thought and perceived reality.
Iconic surrealist fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli(1890-1973)was frequently influenced by surrealists and continued in collaborations with Salvador DalĂ, Leonor Fini, Jean Cocteau, and Alberto Giacometti. Chanel referred to her as 'that Italian artist who makes clothes'.
Salvador Dali and Schiaparelli collaborated to design the Skeleton Dress for the Circus Collection 1938.
